The Rwenzoruru King, Charles Wesley Mumbere, has been granted Amnesty alongside 217 of his subjects, with whom they have been battling a raft of serious charges including treason, terrorism, murder, attempted murder and aggravated robbery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Frances Abodo has in a letter received by Lady Justice Alice Komuhangi Khaukha indicated that the State has lost interest in the cases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amnesty is granted when the accused\/ suspect applies to the Amnesty Commission admitting their mistake. As such, the State is continuing with the charges against Thembo Kitsumbire the former Rwenzururu Prime Minister and Masereka Kamada who maintain their innocence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
King Mumbere is now free to travel anywhere after eight years, most of which he has spent on bail but limited to movement only around Kampala city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The King had been charged with the double murder of Police Constables Saverio Ochema and Simon Peter Apille in September 2016 after earlier murdering Police Constable Godfrey Kasimba in March 2016.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
