First Lady Rachel Ruto made a statement , after she arrived to the Second United Nations UN-Habitat Assembly riding a bicycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The First Lady cycled from the State House to Gigiri for the event themed “A sustainable urban future through Inclusive and effective multilateralism: achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Times of Global Crisis.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event which was inaugurated by Kenya’s President William Ruto is running from June 5 to June 9, 2023 and is being attended by delegates from across the world. The Ugandan delegation is led by Minister of Lands , Housing and Urban Development , Ms. Judith Nabakooba . <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Others on the delegation include the USMID AF Project Coordinator , Dr. Eng. Isaac Mutenyo -hugely credited for the transformation of cities and urban centers in Uganda .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“I am happy to have participated in this morning’s cycle ride from State House to the UN in Gigiri for the UN-Habitat Assembly,” first lady Rachel Ruto said in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“As we ride through our memories and experiences, let’s promote respect between drivers and cyclists. Together we can create a society that values sustainable transport, promotes equality, and builds a safer future,” she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Earlier Rachel had received bicycles worth Ksh27.6 million from the Republic of Korea.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She emphasized the importance of cycling and encouraged citizens to cycle to enable an eco-friendly environment and help reduce carbon emissions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While acknowledging the importance of clean energy, the first lady insisted that bicycles played a vital role in the easy transportation of goods to the markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
