Boyz II Men<\/strong>, American vocal quartet<\/a> that emerged in the 1990s and became one of the most successful rhythm-and-blues<\/a> groups, dominating the charts during the first half of the decade, will be performing in Kampala on June 11, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The concert which is expected to be sold out has had fans calling on the organizers and security agencies to deploy heavily to ensure that there are no goons who usually assault revellers and snatch people’s phones and other personal belongings as the case is with many bivulu for local musicians . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

” This is a must to attend show for some of us who grew up in the 1990s when Boyz II Men were arguably the best signing group in the world. But people are worried about their security . The Kampala goons are a menace when it comes to such events . Boyz II Men is an American R&B\/soul singing group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania<\/strong>. Founded in 1988 as a quintet, Boyz II Men found fame as a quartet, with members Wanya Morris, Michael McCary, Shawn Stockman, and Nathan Morris<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They will be the headline act at an MTN  organized event dubbed \u2018Yetu Festival\u2019 that is slated to be held  at Kololo Independence grounds. They will be supported by Kenyan band Sauti Sol. They are currently a trio composed of baritone Nathan Morris alongside tenors Wany\u00e1 Morris and Shawn Stockman. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The members of Boyz II Men grew up in separate neighbourhoods of Philadelphia<\/a> and came together as high-school friends at the Philadelphia High School for the Performing Arts, where they studied classical music<\/a> and vocal arts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The name Boyz II Men came from a song that had been recorded by the pop quintet New Edition. In 1989 the quartet managed to meet Michael Bivins\u2014who had been a member of New Edition\u2014and gave him an impromptu<\/a> audition. Bivins later signed on as their manager and helped define their gentlemanly image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1991 Boyz II Men debuted on Motown records<\/a> with the album Cooleyhighharmony<\/em>, which went on to sell more than seven million copies and won a Grammy Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 1992 their recording of \u201cEnd of the Road,\u201d from the movie soundtrack of Boomerang<\/a><\/em>, spent 13 consecutive weeks in the number one slot on Billboard<\/em>\u2019s pop chart, eclipsing by two weeks the previous record set by Elvis Presley<\/a>\u2014\u201cDon\u2019t Be Cruel\u201d backed with \u201cHound Dog\u201d\u2014in 1956. In 1994 the group helped write and produce the album II<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After Whitney Houston<\/a> broke their record by spending 14 weeks at number one with \u201cI Will Always Love You<\/a>,\u201d Boyz II Men came back to tie her with \u201cI\u2019ll Make Love to You.\u201d The release of their follow-up single, \u201cOn Bended Knee,\u201d put them with an elite group of artists (Presley and the Beatles<\/a>) who succeeded themselves at the number one spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After a world tour, the band<\/a> started work on their next album, Evolution<\/em>, which was released in 1997. While it had several hits\u2014notably, \u201c4 Seasons of Loneliness\u201d and \u201cA Song for Mama\u201d\u2014the album failed to sell as well as their previous efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Their next albums, Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya<\/em> (2000) and Full Circle<\/em> (2002), also saw declining sales. In 2003 McCary left the group because of health issues. Boyz II Men continued to tour, and their later albums included Throwback<\/em> (2004), which featured covers of their favourite songs, and The Remedy<\/em> (2007). After a few more covers collections, Boyz II Men recorded original material for Twenty<\/em> (2011) and Collide<\/em> (2014), but they returned to reinterpreting classics for Under the Streetlight<\/em> (2017).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
