Parliament will convene on Tuesday next week to reconsider some provisions of the Anti- Homosexuality Bill after President Yoweri Museveni declined to assent to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Museveni on April 25, wrote to the Speaker of Parliament\u00a0 and expressed his reservations about section 2, 3 , 9 ( (1) and (2) , and section\u00a0 19 which he said are\u00a0 contradictory , not clear and may cause some constitutional challenges .\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President also suggested that the Anti Homosexuality Bill should also provide for rehabilitation of those who have previously involved in acts of homosexuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Museveni has since met the members of the \u00a0Parliamentary Legal Committee at State House Entebbe led by their Chairperson Hon. Robina Rwakoojo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have met the Legal Committee of Parliament and we have agreed on the way forward which they are going to report to the bigger body on the Bill of Anti-Homosexuals. The Details will be communicated to the Public in due course,\u201d President Museveni said in a statement after his private meeting with gthe MPs. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The President also met the NRM Parliamentary caucus at Kololo Independence grounds where he agreed to assent to the Anti-Homosexuality Bill, 2023 into law once a few changes are made regarding rehabilitation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTherefore, I congratulate you for making that stand and also the bishops, the religious people and the citizens,\u201d Museveni added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
