The Chief Justice, Alphonse Owiny Dollo has described the late Court of Appeal Justice Kenneth Kakuru as an invaluable defender of human rights that will be missed greatly .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The outspoken Justice Kakuru died at Aga Khan Hospital in Kenya\u2019s capital, Nairobi aged 65.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Following his passing ,the Chief Justice Dollo addressed the media and stated thus , \u201cJustice Kakuru has been a valued member of the bench since his appointment in July 2013 and will greatly be missed by the judiciary and the people who have known him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He was according to his judgements a human rights defender per excellence. We shall surely miss him and ask that the Lord receives him in glory for eternity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Chief Justice promised that the judiciary will release the detailed funeral program for the deceased justice of the Court of Appeal and Constitutional Court later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kakuru had in 2021 applied for early retirement due to ill health . He was admitted to Aga Khan hospital in Nairobi where he was being treated for prostate cancer which was said to have been in advanced stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The judge ruled against the lifting of the presidential terms ,the extension of \u00a0the tenure for parliament from five to seven years and was also among the Constitutional Court justices that \u00a0nullified section 8 of the Public Order Management Act which was previously used by police to stop public gatherings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He survived by a widow and three children .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
