The Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development (MEMD) has partnered with Global Gases Group FZE on the development of a waste to power project and the use of green hydrogen to provide electricity to remote areas in Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The waste to power project will involve the utilization of municipal waste, organic\/animal waste, to produce biogas, fuel-gas, biomethane for power generation, industrial process application and mobility solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Green Hydrogen to Power project will involve the generation of Green Hydrogen to provide electricity to remote islands of Uganda in Lake Victoria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The partnership follows the  signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Development Hon. Dr. Ruth Nankabirwa on behalf of the government of Uganda and  Mr. Deepak Metha the  Founder and CEO of Global Gases Group . The signing ceremony was witnessed  by the Ministry of Energy\u2019s Permanent Secretary Eng. Irene Batebe at the ministry\u2019s headquarters in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the MoU , the government is expected to provide support in access to relevant officials, information, data and reports in the possession of government or any government entity that is necessary for the implementation of the projects and oversight of integrated planning for the energy sector and keeping global updated on relevant plans and activities to the extent possible accordingly to applicable laws.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the other hand, Global Gases Group will, at its cost, complete feasibility studies and a business case development for the utilization of municipal waste, organic\/animal waste, to produce biogas, fuel-gas, biomethane, organic manure for power generation, industrial process applications, agriculture, and mobility solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The company is also expected to complete feasibility studies and a business case development for the generation of Green Hydrogen, storing & transportation of green hydrogen, generating electricity utilising green hydrogen and supplying to remote islands through micro grids.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government agreed, that through the appropriate authorities in Uganda, it will provide support and data to Global Gases Group to conduct feasibility studies, obtain statutory approvals, secure investment incentives, and necessary approvals for the project infrastructure, provided that the quality of the Green Hydrogen gas to be produced shall be of the acceptable quality and the price is lower than the purchase price in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government of Uganda will also render support to Global Gases Group to the extent possible to conduct feasibility studies, identify and propose suitable locations (land) and water, green power for hydrogen generation, necessary approvals, necessary infrastructure like road, ports, mini-grids to facilitate the projects and policy interventions to facilitate the investment and pilot program in accordance with the laws of Uganda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Global Gases Group FZE is expected to secure the necessary funds and undertake all the technical, legal, commercial, investment and financial activities necessary for the development and implementation of the projects and provide technology and investment in infrastructure and equipment related to Green Hydrogen generation using electrolysis, hydrogen storage, handling and transportation, fuel cells and electricity distribution to facilitate the investment and pilot program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working hand in hand, the two partners will develop a framework for collaboration with residents of remote islands, draft power purchasing\/distribution agreements and a commercialization model; and also develop a framework for collaboration with other government and non-government entities, operating structure, and commercial structure for collection of waste and consumption of biogas and biomethane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
