Nine people were reported dead following a midnight new year stampede\u00a0at Freedom City Mall along Entebbe highway in Kampala, Uganda. The accident occurred during the New Year\u00a0festivities, police have said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After fireworks, a stampede ensued resulting in the deaths of five people and several others left injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is alleged that the incident occurred at midnight when the event’s emcee\u00a0encouraged attendees to go outside and watch the fireworks display. After the display ended, a stampede ensued resulting into the instant deaths of five people,\u201d\u00a0Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson\u00a0ASP Luke Owoyesigyire said on January 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Additionally, ASP Owoyesigyire disclosed that emergency responders transported several casualties to a hospital where a total of nine fatalities were confirmed following the crowd crush. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
