She was 93.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2012\/12\/05\/us\/barbara-walters---fast-facts\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Barbara Walters<\/a>\u00a0passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by loved ones. She lived her life with no regrets. She was a trailblazer not only for female journalists but for all women,\u201d Walters\u2019 spokesperson Cindi Berger told  the media in a statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walters began her national broadcast career in 1961 as a reporter, writer and panel member for NBC\u2019s \u201cToday\u201d show before being promoted to co-hdst in 1974. In 1976, Walters joined ABC News as the first female anchor on an evening news program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At that network, Walters launched \u201cThe Barbara Walters Specials\u201d and \u201c10 Most Fascinating People\u201d before becoming a co-host and correspondent for ABC News\u2019 \u201c20\/20\u201d in 1984. Indeed, \u201cThe View\u201d \u2013 which debuted in 1997 \u2013 paved the way for American talk shows \u201cThe Talk\u201d and \u201cThe Chew,\u201d as well as such entries as Britain\u2019s \u201cLoose Women\u201d and Norway\u2019s \u201cStudio5.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walters left \u201cThe View\u201d in 2014, but remained a part-time contributor to ABC News for two years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI knew it was time,\u201d Walters told CNN\u2019s Chris Cuomo at the time. \u201cI like all the celebration, that\u2019s great, but in my heart, I thought, \u2018I want to walk away while I\u2019m still doing good work.\u2019 So I will.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Looking upon the numerous women who had looked up to her throughout her career, Walters said they were her legacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow do you say goodbye to something like 50 years in television?\u201d she said in conclusion. \u201cHow proud when I see all the young women who are making and reporting the news. If I did anything to help make that happen, that is my legacy. From the bottom of my heart, to all of you with whom I have worked and who have watched and been by my side, I can say: \u2018Thank you.\u2019 \u201c<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walters was married four times, to business executive Robert Katz, producer Lee Guber and twice to entertainment mogul Merv Adelson. The second marriage to Adelson ended in 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Jackie, whom she and Guber adopted in 1968.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"paragraph-fbcfa0b6-611a-93ce-2285-663136bcaed3\">Walters\u2019 big \u2018get\u2019 interviews<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Walters was born September 25, 1929, in Boston. That included, most recently, jockeying to land the first interview with Caitlyn Jenner, which Sawyer conducted in 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Walters, though, was no slacker in terms of landing major interviews, including presidents, world leaders and almost every imaginable celebrity, with a well-earned reputation for bringing her subjects to tears.
