On chilly Friday\u00a0 morning today – the Minister of Works and Transport Gen. Katumba Wamala has boarded one of Kiira Motors produced Kayoola fully electric bus on his way to work . Gen Katumba also inspected the Kayoola electric buses transit service operated by Kalita transporters on the northern bypass in Kampala city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen Katumba Wamala boarded the Kayoola EVs at Nambole stage and together with other city travelers enjoyed the smooth ride all the way to Kalerwe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With about 60 passengers on board , Gen Katumba who was on his way to work and had the opportunity to chat with his fellow passengers who requested him to have more electric buses on all the major\u00a0 city routes\u00a0 – in a concerted effort to reduce traffic jam and pollution in the Kampala city . The passengers told Gen Katumba that they were happy with the new transport services -which they said were clean, pocket friendly and\u00a0 keep time . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

” We want these buses to be deployed on other routes including Mukono , Wakiso and Entebbe ,one excited lady passenger told the Minister . The Kayoola buses ply the  22-kilometre round trip from Nambole  to Busega on a daily basis .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen. Katumba’s public show of confidence in Uganda’s E-mobility solutions follows President Yoweri Museveni’s assurances that nothing will stop  a group of Ugandan innovators and manufacturers to  spearhead Uganda\u2019s transition from  fossil fuels to E-mobility to reduce pollution and offer an organized -cheap transport solution for Kampala city and other urban centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museveni has stated that these quick interventions will help to  decongest the city as commuters will adapt to a modern , quick  , safe and clean Rapid Mass Transport System within Kampala city and other urban centers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kampala, Uganda\u2019s capital which is  home to more than two million people- ranks among the world\u2019s most polluted cities- with pollution levels up to seven times higher than the World Health Organisation\u2019s safe standards, according to the 2021 World Air Quality Report. Around 28,000 people per year die as a result of air pollution in Uganda, according to GAHP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
