Members of Parliament on the Committee of Science Technology and Innovation led by their\u00a0 Chairman and Deputy Chairperson , Hon. Remegio Achia and Hon Dr. Florence Asiimwe Akiiki , respectively have hailed the management of Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) and National Enterprise Corporation (NEC) for constructing a world class vehicle plant at the Jinja Industrial and Business park.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The over 20 MPS promised to support KMC in its efforts to grow Uganda \u2018s Automotive value chain to ensure value addition, import substitution and export promotion as well as shifting from fossil fuels to the clean E-mobility solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They described the automotive industry as an \u201cindustry of industries\u201d that will create wealth and jobs for millions of Ugandans . They called on government ministries and agencies to buy buses from Kiira Motors in a concerted effort to promote local products and industries .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier the Deputy Speaker or Parliament Hon. \u00a0Thomas Tayebwa visited the plant . He too, was impressed by the work being undertaken by the National Enterprise Corporation, a commercial arm of the UPDF.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am very impressed by the work being done here by the National Enterprise Corporation under the supervision of Makerere University Professors,\u201d the deputy speaker said, adding that: \u201cThis [project] is a true testimony that the moment you believe in your national capabilities, you can move mountains. Our very own National Enterprise Corporation is the one putting up such a massive project\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr Tayebwa pledged that Parliament, where he is a deputy speaker would do all that it takes to ensure successful completion of the vehicle plant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis project still needs more support and it shouldn\u2019t be a project which is only championed by the president alone but by all of us,\u201d the deputy speaker said noting that the  kiira Vehicle Plant which will be the biggest in East and Central Africa- is a key project of national strategic importance and it\u2019s something all Ugandans should be proud of.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
