The government of Uganda is committed to determining the carbon emissions factors for the mining sector to mitigate against effects of climate change following the local and international protocols to have a sustainable mining industry , the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Energy  and Mineral Development ,\u201d Eng. Irene Bateebe has stated.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

She was speaking at the opening of a two day training about the decarbonization of the mining programme being implemented by the Ministry of  Energy . The training was sponsored by the US government through their mission in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Batebe  said that mineral exploitation is critical for sustainable industrialization in Uganda and that the country was committed to the  promotion of best practices in data collection to  enable the industry players ascertain the areas of loss, improve cooperate image and improve on the technologies deployed in exploration and processing of minerals to improve efficiency and timely delivery of processed minerals. This ,she noted ,must be done while putting into consideration the local and international climate change concerns .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Government of Uganda is therefore requesting the United States Embassy to take further this work and develop Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action (NAMA) Project on Energy and Technology efficiency for the Mining Programme,\u201d she added .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The PS noted that Uganda has a vast mineral potential which is underexploited .The mining and mineral  programme , Batebe explained ,aims to increase the exploitation and value addition to selected resources for job rich industrialisation .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government through the Ministry of Energy has developed its second Nationally Determined contributions and industrialization and mining is one of the key areas to drive the keep 1.5 degrees alive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Batebe thanked the United States government  for the opportunity to train Ugandan technocrats  and called for more collaborations and support.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
