The Electoral Commission has issued a statement in which it has given new guidelines to manage the hotly contested Omoro by-elections. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the statement signed by the EC Chairman , Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama , campaign meetings will commence at 7:00am and end at 6:00pm on each of the campaign dates. \u201cDuring this period, candidates shall not use or publish any language or defamatory words, which incite disorder, hatred, violence or which threaten war. All candidates, their agents and the public to adhere to the harmonized programme and set rules and regulations guiding the campaign period,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EC reminded the electorate that the campaigns shall be conducted between May 16, 2022 to May 24, 2022 for the Omoro Member of Parliament by-election and the District Women Councilor representing Lalogi\/Lakwaya electoral area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission further stated that May 26, 2022 will be the polling day and that \u201cvoting shall be by universal adult suffrage, and shall take place at all polling stations in Omoro\u00a0 County Constituency, beginning at 7:00am till 4:00pm\u201d and there after \u201ccounting of votes and declaration of results shall take place.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cPolitical parties and independent candidates are encouraged to station their agents at polling stations throughout the Constituency. Other than observing the exercise, candidates\u2019 agents shall not be expected to interfere with the polling process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“All persons participating in the above electoral exercise shall be required to comply with guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission in accordance with the Government of Uganda and Ministry of Health measures against the spread of Covid-19. This includes observing social distancing and wearing masks,\u201d Justice Byabakama said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
