Musk bought the jet before he became a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/how-old-billionaires-were-when-they-earned-their-first-billion-2016-2#elon-musk-41-8\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">billionaire<\/a>&nbsp;in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musk&#8217;s jet was previously registered to other companies including MLM company Amway, per registration&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.planelogger.com\/Aircraft\/Registration\/N900SX\/620412\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">records<\/a>&nbsp;compiled by online database PlaneLogger. This indicates that Musk likely bought a pre-owned jet. Musk&#8217;s Falcon 900B is under the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.jetphotos.com\/info\/FAL900-139\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">registration<\/a>&nbsp;N900SX.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Musk&#8217;s jet was last seen in active use in 2016, according to PlaneLogger&#8217;s database. In an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ted.com\/talks\/elon_musk_a_future_worth_getting_excited_about?language=en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">interview<\/a>\u00a0with Chris Anderson at the TED Conference in April, Musk said he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/elon-musk-doesnt-own-home-sleeps-in-spare-bedrooms-2022-4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">doesn&#8217;t<\/a>\u00a0own a home, a yacht, or take vacations. &#8220;I mean, the one exception is the plane, but if I don&#8217;t use the plane then I have less hours to work,&#8221; Musk said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The plane he&#8217;s referring to is his\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/post\/preview?post_id=62623f8f884de6490077e223&amp;mode=desktop#gulfstreams-flagship-plane-the-g650er-is-a-favorite-among-many-wealthy-individuals-like-musk-1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gulfstream G650ER<\/a>, in which he flew more than 150,000 miles in 2018 alone, per\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/economy\/elon-musks-highflying-2018-what-150000-miles-in-a-private-jet-reveal-about-his-excruciating-year\/2019\/01\/29\/83b5604e-20ee-11e9-8b59-0a28f2191131_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">flight records<\/a>\u00a0obtained by the media. Only four jets have been\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.superyachtfan.com\/private-jet\/owner\/elon-musk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">registered<\/a>\u00a0to Musk and Tesla in addition to the Falcon 900B: a Gulfstream G650ER (N628TS) and two Gulfstream G550 (N272BG and N502SX).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new Dassault Falcon costs $26 million, while a pre-owned jet costs $5 million. The Falcon 900B was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.guardianjet.com\/jet-aircraft-online-tools\/aircraft-brochure.cfm?m=Dassault-Falcon-900B-169\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">last manufactured<\/a>\u00a0in 2000 and has a fleet size of 156. The jet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/compareprivateplanes.com\/articles\/dassault-falcon-900b-ownership-operating-costs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">costs<\/a>\u00a0$26 million when deliveries first began in 1985, and costs $5 million if\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aircraftcostcalculator.com\/AircraftOperatingCosts\/173\/Dassault+Falcon+900B#:~:text=Depending%20on%20numerous%20factors%2C%20the,DASSAULT%20Falcon%20900B%20is%20%245%2C193%2C850.00.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bought<\/a>\u00a0pre-owned in recent years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the 900B is no longer being manufactured, the latest variant of the original Falcon 900 \u2014 the 900LX \u2014 is still in&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dassaultfalcon.com\/en\/Aircraft\/Models\/900LX\/Pages\/Overview.aspx\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">production.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jet\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aircraftcostcalculator.com\/AircraftOperatingCosts\/173\/Dassault+Falcon+900B#:~:text=Depending%20on%20numerous%20factors%2C%20the,a%20%24130%2C219.47%20per%2Dperiod%20payment.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">costs<\/a>\u00a0around $2 million to operate if flown for 450 hours a year. The interior has remained the same since it was first produced in the 1980s, according to Business Jet Traveler. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although the jet is much older than popular business jets like the Gulfstream G650, the Falcon 900&#8217;s design has been described as&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjtonline.com\/business-jet-news\/dassault-falcon-900b\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;way ahead of its time.&#8221;<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The variants, especially the 900B, are a popular choice in the pre-owned jet market. They are much easier to refurbish and maintain than other older aircraft,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bjtonline.com\/business-jet-news\/dassault-falcon-900b\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" target=\"_blank\">per Business Jet News.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The 33-foot-long jet can accommodate up to 14 passengers and three crew, per Business Jet Traveler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The jet&#8217;s rear end can be customized into a private cabin with a bed (pictured above).
