First Son, Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba (47) -who is also the Commander of the Land Forces has announced his retirement from the Ugandan army.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen. Muhoozi\u2019s announcement caught many Ugandans by surpise given he has just recently been appointed the commander of Uganda\u2019s land forces . For the last couple of years a section of Ugandans has been urging Gen. Muhoozi to step down from his military career and prepare to run for political office . It is not clear whether these calls have led \u00a0Muhoozi to retire from the armed forces at such an early age .<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter 28 years of service in my glorious military, the greatest military in the world, I am happy to announce my retirement,\u201d Lt Gen Muhoozi tweeted on Tuesday. Me and my soldiers have achieved so much! I have only love and respect for all those great men and women that achieve greatness for Uganda everyday,\u201d Muhoozi said on his twitter handle where he is followed by hundreds of Ugandans -especially the youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen Muhoozi recently told a local online publisher that he was born on as a refugee on 24 April 1974 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania to Gen.Museveni who has been President since 1986.
He attended schools in Tanzania, Kenya and Sweden when his father became President of Uganda, he returned to Uganda and attend school at Kampala Parents School, Kings College Buddo and St. Mary\u2019s College Kisubi<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muhoozi joined the military activities in 1994 after he left high school and later attended the University of Nottingham from 1996 till 1998. He enrolled in the  UPDF in 1999 before  he joined one of the world\u2019s  elite military academy – the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst where he graduated in 2000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He attended  other military courses at the  Egyptian Military Academy- company and battalion command course ; Kalama Armoured Warfare Training School, in Kabamba, Mubende District andthe United States Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas – 2008.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Muhoozi Kainerugaba was promoted to the rank of Major General in May 2016 shortly after the presidential elections and subsequently -in 2019 he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General .<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
