The East African Council of Ministers has has approved the Democratic Republic of Congo’s application to join the East African Community -EAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Affairs Rebecca Kadaga announced the decision on her Twitter handle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Council, sitting for its\u00a044th Extra-ordinary meeting \u00a0decided\u00a0that DRC has satisfied all the required criteria to be admitted to the EAC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI have just been part of the historical decision to recommend to the Summit of the Heads of State the admission of the Democratic Republic of Congo to the East African Community,\u201d Kadaga wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Barring any unexpected drastic development, the DRC will become a member of the EAC in January 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The criteria for admission of new members into the community which DRC has apparently satisfied include observance of human rights and social justice, potential contribution to the strengthening of integration within East Africa, democracy and the rule of law, and adherence to universally acceptable principles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DRC has long been considered the worst place for a woman or girl to be in because of the massive abuse of their rights and modesty by marauding militia and security forces of different countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
DRC will now join Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan in the EAC where\u00a0Human Rights and Democracy are respected.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
