The Republic of Uganda has donated two plots of prime land totaling 20 acres in size, for the construction of memorial facilities in honour of Mahatma Gandhi<\/p>\n\n\n\n
THe bigger plot of 15 Acres is located in Entebbe on which the Indian government will build the Mahatma Gandhi conventions centre. The second plot measuring five acres is in Jinja where the Indian government will construct a cultural centre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda’s minister of state for foreign affairs Henry Okello Oryem represented the government in concluding and signing the agreement over the land with his counterpart,\u00a0the Indian State Minister for External and Parliamentary Affairs\u00a0Shri Muraleedharan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the brief ceremony\u00a0in Kampala,\u00a0Shri Muraleedharan\u00a0praised the excellent relations between his country and Uganda, which hit a climax with his prime minister\u00a0Narendra Modi’s\u00a0visit to Kampala in 2018.\u00a0He mentioned\u00a0several sectors of important cooperation between the two states,\u00a0including\u00a0Agriculture\u00a0and Defence.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On the cost of the project, Oryem Okelly refused to divulge figures, saying simply that it is going to be huge, with the convention centre of Entebbe also intended to have a hotel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
