Lands Minister Hon.Judith Nabakooba is traversing the country in a bid to reassure Millions of bibanja holders \u00a0that government is committed to give them protection from Illegal land evictions . \u00a0

While in \u00a0Kyakarinda Village, Kaliro Subcounty \u00a0in Lyantonde district on Monday September,27 \u00a0met over 200 people who are facing eviction by land administrators of a 60.27 hectares of land. \u00a0It is alleged that the family of the late George W Ruhetani is threatening \u00a0to evict hundreds of squatters from the land. \u00a0

However, at meeting of all the concerned parties called by the Minister Nabakooba ,Mr Ezra Mugenyi \u00a0who represented the administrators of the disputed land said they made a decision to open boundaries \u00a0to know how far the land goes.\u00a0 \u00a0 He explained that the land was bought in 1977 by their grandfather (RIP) and the estate has to get another care taker.

\u201cThere is no body who is chasing these bibanja people off their bibanja. \u00a0We have no intentions whatsoever of chasing away bibanja holders. When we opened boundaries we wanted to know the size of the land so that when it comes to sharing it\u2019s done equitably \u201d he explained to the minister and the residents . \u00a0

Minister Nabakooba assured the locals that government will offer them the necessary protection From any illegal evictions. She told the residents that demarcating the land did not \u00a0stop them from Using the land. \u00a0 Nabakooba urged the continue using their bibanja since \u00a0the landlord now acknowledges that they \u00a0Exist.\u00a0

Nabakooba said that she was going to direct the Masaka Land Office to open the boundaries \u00a0of the disputed land to establish the rightful owners since the residents \u00a0claiming part of the land belongs to the \u00a0Buganda Land board. \u00a0 The minister explained that if the boundaries are opened the residents \u00a0will know who their landlords .

\u00a0\u201cWe are going to ensure that Ugandans are educated about land matters. Once someone is \u00a0educated, they \u00a0become empowered and they will know how to protect for what is theirs.\u201d Ms Catherine Bamwine the RDC Lyantonde District sated ,\u201d Landlords can always open boundaries \u00a0but they can\u2019t evict the tenants without mutual understanding and agreement.\u201d <\/a> \u00a0<\/td>		<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
