At least  1,300 people were arrested  last evening in a major Police swoop on bars across the Capital Kampala for breach of Covid-19 regulations.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Several bars in and around the city were targeted and these included Jac & Drew at forest Mall ,  Legends , Alchemist , Monte ,La Venti , Nexus , a Lounge among others .<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier Police had warned that it would scale- up curfew operations in Kampala after a new  deadly Covid -19 -Indian strain was confirmed in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

President ,Yoweri Museveni , in his televised address to the nation last evening called on Ugandans in the\u00a0 villages not to travel to Kampala and Wakiso the most Covid-19 hit districts in Uganda . He said that the\u00a0 country had registered 690 new cases on Saturday alone brining the cumulative figure to 46,623 and 362 deaths recorded so far.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of people who have contracted the  virus has increased and Museveni said a national taskforce will meet this week to address the problem . Health officials said <\/strong>that Uganda has registered the India Covid-19 variant B.1.617 which is more transmissible and affects mainly the  younger age group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
