Outgoing and outspoken -speaker of parliament , Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has been dropped \u00a0by her party -the National Resistance Movement (NRM) –\u00a0Central Executive Committee (CEC) for the 3rd<\/sup> most powerful executive position of Speaker and recommended her arch-rival youthful \u00a0Jacob Oulanyah for the converted job.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At least   529 MPs  of the 11th parliament  will  today vote for the leadership of the House .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00a0At a press conference held at hotel African Kadaga explained that she had decided to stand as an independent,\u00a0 because her party tried to rig her out of the race and feared that women were being forced out of leadership positions in the NRM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She said that sections of the party leadership did not like her  because she had insisted on speaking for the rights of ordinary people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kadaga explained that there were many occasions  when the NRM leaders mainly men tried to force her out of the party\u2019s leadership  with \u201ctremendous state interference and funding\u201d to prevent her winning the Central Executive Committee national vice chairperson.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The elected speaker then takes over the house to preside over the voting for his or her deputy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is a Ugandan lawyer and politician who has been Speaker of the Parliament of Uganda since 19 May 2011. She is the first woman to be elected Speaker in the history of the Parliament of Uganda. She succeeded Edward Ssekandi, who served as Speaker from 2001 to 2011. She is seeking her third term in the position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kadaga is the Kamuli district woman MP. She retained her position in the 2021 election. She is considered a power broker in the Busoga region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
