Parliament has approved an additional UGSHS. 100bn for Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to recruit staff and improve on its revenue collection performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The additional UGSHS. 100bn will increase the tax body’s operation budget from UGSHS.436bn to UGSHS 536bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According, to John Musinguzi the Commissioner General of URA, parliament’s support to URA will enable them to collect more revenue ,become efficient and also look out for tax evaders . He said that URA intends to open 600 new staff in the authority who will include accountants , tax assessors , IT experts and tax collectors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
So far there are only 1.7M tax payers in Uganda from a population of an estimated 45M people . Experts have called upon URA to widen the tax base so that they don’t tax the same people all the time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
