A nationwide internet blackout imposed in Uganda a day before the hotly contested Jan. 14 presidential election in which the incumbent Gen Yower Kaguta Museveni emerged winner with a 58% of the vote , has been partially lifted. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, social media continues to be shutdown and it is not clear when the services will be restored .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda said that government had taken the painful decision to close social media and the internet due to national security threats . \u00a0Dr. Rugunda said government was reviewing the security situation before restoring the internet.<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gen .Museveni Museveni said he will decisively deal with those planning to create chaos in the East African nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIf anyone tries to disrupt our peace, we shall deal with them decisively,\u201d the 76-year-old leader said in his televised address to the nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe people of Uganda have rejected the politics of sectarianism, religion or tribe. The people of Uganda have stuck to the idea of patriotism, Pan-Africanism and love for country,\u201d he added.\u2028<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Museveni pledged to inject more funds to support youth programs in the country to fight widespread  unemployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said the majority of youth in the country support his ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), contrary to what he said western media had predicted that the youth would vote his rival.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
