President Yoweri Museveni who is on a campaign trail has commissioned a state-of-the-art Kasese Central Market in Kasese municipality. The facility which cost UG.Shs14.9 billion is one of many mordern markets that have been built by the NRM government under the Markets and Agriculture Trade Improvement Project (MATIP) and implemented by the Ministry of Local Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new market will accommodate at least 1,000 vendors and has food stalls, restaurants, banks, clinics, salons, butcheries, daycare center, fruit and vegetable stands. The market is also installed with CCTV cameras, public address system,s and flat TV screens for adverts and news updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The market was commissioned ahead of the president\u2019s meeting with NRM party leaders from Kasese District who also gifted him with 10 heifers as a token for his leadership that has seen the country and Kasese in particular become peaceful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
You the people of Kasese should be witnesses to the rest of Ugandans. You know what happened here and in countries like Congo. For almost 60 years since independence, Congo is not settled.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Museveni called upon the NRM party leaders to preached to the population the wide spread achievements of the party and guide them to make informed and wise decisions in the forthcoming election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhen we gave you a district when we had just come, you were only 200,000 people but now you have over one million because of immunization.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NRM presidential flag bearer, however, reminded the leaders that they need to work on the issue of wealth creation but with proper calculation to ensure people have some money in their pockets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYour spokesperson told us that of the 150 homes in his area, only 20 are working for both the stomach and pockets. If the remaining 130 are working for only their stomachs, where do they get the money from? If the land you have is small, look for enterprises that can be done on a small piece of land but bring out high yields. I will come back here for a conference on what enterprise to be done on a small piece of land,\u201d he said.
