One of President Yoweri Museveni’s political mentors and long time confidant Mzee Ali Kirunda Kivejinja who has been battling Covid-19 at Mulago National Referral Hospital for over a month has died . He was 85 .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ali Kirunda Kivejinja (born 12 June 1935), more commonly known as Kirunda Kivejinja, was a veteran Ugandan politician and senior presidential advisor to the President of Uganda, Yoweri Museveni. He also served as the Second Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Community Affairs in the Ugandan Cabinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Family members said the veteran politician- one of Busoga region’s shining stars who doubled as an NRM\/ NRA historical passed on at 5pm . He will\u00a0 be remembered for his nationalism and loyalty to President Yoweri Museveni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Kivejinja studied at the Kibuli Junior School and\u00a0Busoga College Mwiri<\/a>\u00a0in Uganda and then took a pre-university course at\u00a0Madras Christian College<\/a>\u00a0before obtaining a\u00a0Bachelor of Science<\/a>\u00a0(Honours) Degree in\u00a0Zoology<\/a>\u00a0at\u00a0Delhi University<\/a>\u00a0on a\u00a0Government of India<\/a>\u00a0scholarship. While in\u00a0India<\/a>\u00a0he was treasurer of the African Students Association which had among its members\u00a0Bingu wa Mutharika<\/a>,\u00a0John Malecela<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0John Mataure<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n early this year when many were facing economic hardship due to the locakdown following the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic Kivejinja advised the youth to embrace the culture of saving and always prepare for the hard times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n “With extreme sorrow we have learnt of the death of the 2nd<\/sup>\u00a0Deputy Prime Minister, Al Hajji Ali Kirunda Kivejinja, who has passed on today Saturday December 19, 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It is a very tragic development to lose Mzee Kivejinja who has been a pillar in the NRM Government, Busoga and Uganda at large and a great and historical friend of the NRM National Chairman and Head-Of-State, Gen. Yoweri Museveni,” a statement released by the NRM Secretariat ,read in part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We thank all those who have been there for Mzee Kivejinja during his time of illness.
