Even with the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic on the rise , government has lifted restrictions on performing arts according to a statement issued by Mr. Sam Okello the Chairman of the Board of trustees Uganda National Cultural Center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Okello in a three page statement said that UNCC has been working with the Ministry of Health and the National Covid-19 Task Force to put in place measures that will be strictly followed when the performing arts spaces are opened up effective this weekend after 9 months of lockdown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“On behal , of the Art and Cuture fraternity allow me to thank government for allowing our sector to now open,” Okello said while urging all preforming artists and their fans to strictly follow the SoPs that have been put in place to avoid contracting Covid -19.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that government had also released UG .Shs. 1.2bn through the Ministry of Gender that will be distributed to events promoters who lost money when the lockdown was instituted . Following the opening , the National Theatre Auditorium will host its first event -the film awards 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the holiday season draws nearer , the number of Ugandans suffering from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic has grown to 27,071 cases and at least 220 people have died according to official figures released by the Minister of Information and National Guidance, Ms. Judith Nabakooba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nabakooba in her weekly \u00a0media briefing said that COVID-19 pandemic is a security matter because it is a dangerous disease that is spreading at a fast rate \u00a0and claiming lives of many Ugandans.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
