As the holiday season draws nearer , the number of Ugandans suffering from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic has grown to 27,071 cases and at least 220 people have died according to official figures released by the Minister of Information and National Guidance, Ms. Judith Nabakooba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nabakooba in her weekly \u00a0media briefing at Enro Hotel in Mityana , said that COVID-19 pandemic is a security matter because it is a dangerous disease that is spreading at a fast rate \u00a0and claiming lives of many Ugandans.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cLet us therefore support the police and other agencies in ensuring that the danger of COVID-19 is minimized,\u201d the Minister said and called upon people to cancel the traditional Christmas and end of year travels to the villages in order not to spread coronavirus to the vulnerable population especially the old people who live in the country side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMajority of the elderly people in the villages are already vulnerable. \u201cYou can celebrate with them by calling and using the available Mobile Money options instead of risking yours and their health. The best way to share love this season is by everyone staying at home and following the guidelines against COVID-19,\u201dshe added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She also reiterated medical experts advise for people to undertake medical tests and know their medical status. \u201cInformation about your general health situation will help you to prevent and manage COVID-19 better.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Minister regrated to note that majority of people have abandoned the SOPs that were set by government to stem the spread of COvid -19 .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cMany people continue to use their masks as necklaces instead of the recommended way. Masks are supposed to cover the chin (emba), mouth and nose all the time when in public. Others have completely stopped washing hands with soap. I call upon everyone to say no COVID-19,\u201d Nabakooba said..<\/p>\n\n\n\n
