A Ugandan advocate , Mr. Bernard Oundo has been elected the East African Law Society President in a voting exercise that was conducted online due to novel-global Covid -19 pandemic that has left over a million people dead accross the world .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oundo defeated two other Ugandan contenders for the top position that is rotational within the EAC legal community . He polled 793 votes against his rivals , Anne Abeja and Edwin Tabaro ,179 and 430 votes , respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The East African Law Society is made up of members from the member states that include ,Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, new entrant South Sudan and Zanzibar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Oundo who had ealier lost the Uganda Law Society Presidency conducted an aggressive virtual campaign in which he promised an East African Law Society (EALS) that is all inclusive, innovative and prominent in the legal profession across Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EALS President elect is the Managing Partner of Citadel Advocates, a law firm in Uganda that specializes in legal advisory services in Project Finance and Public ,Private Partnerships (PPPs). He began his legal career with the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, Uganda where he worked, first as a Legal Counsel with the Privatisation Unit and later as a Legal Advisor with the Department of Project Analysis and PPPs.
