Government has reduced the cost of the COVID-19 tests from UG.SHS.240,000 to UGSHS.185,000, following public outcry about the high cost of testing for the deadly pandemic that has left over a million people dead globally .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Ms. Judith Nabakooba , told the nation in her weekly briefing on key national issues at the Ministry headquarters in Kampala, that the revised costs will apply to the special categories of people that are required to undergo mandatory testing and given a COVID-19 certificate. These include truck drivers entering the country, people traveling out of the country, Ugandan and visitors coming into the country without negative COVID19 certificates and private individuals or organisaitons that want to test their staff.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nabakooba said that for the rest of Ugandans who wish to know their Covid -19 status are encouraged to check into any government hospital for free services. \u201cI want to continue encouraging members of the public that if you suspect to have been exposed to COVID-19, please go for a test at a government facility for free. Let us continue wearing our Masks, washing of hands with soap all the time,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And as the country enters the political campaign period which will run from November 9th<\/sup> 2020 to February 1st<\/sup> .2021, the Minister urged the candidates and their supporters to desist from using abusive language ,defaming others, telling falsehoods , inciting public disorder and promoting violence. \u201c Candidates should conduct their campaigns in manner that respects our diversity in culture and political differences. The political campaigns should bring us closer together as a country as opposed to separating us, \u201cNabakooba stated<\/p>\n\n\n\n She also reminded the political actors that the 2021 generations will be held scientifically to avid the spread of the coronavirus and called upon all the candidates to respect the guidelines provided by the Electoral Commission . \u201cWe are reminded that all candidates have the responsibility of keeping the public safe from COVID-19.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n Schools warned on registration fees<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Nabakooba warned schools against over charging parents for the UNEB exams registration fees. According to rates released by UNEB each candidate sitting for PLE will pay ,UGSHS. 34,000, UCE \u2013UGSHS. 164,000 and UACE \u2013 UGSHS.186,000.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Previously there have been occasions where schools have collected money from parents but failed to register the candidates on time.
