President Yoweri Museveni has named a progressive judge of the  High Court , Justice  Lydia Mugambe Ssali as the new Inspector General of Government (IGG) to replace Lady Justice Irene Mulyagonja who was appointed to the Court of Appeal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Married to longtime sports pundit and UNRA spokesman , Mark Ssali , lady Justice Mugambe has curved a niche as one of Uganda\u2019s progressive commercial and human rights judges handing out several rulings against human rights abusers and compensating many victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Mugambe has served as a High Court judge for seven years having been appointed to the bench by president Museveni in 2013.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She graduated from the Faculty of Law of Makerere University<\/a>, Uganda’s largest and oldest public university, with a Bachelor of Laws<\/a>. The following year, she was awarded a Diploma in Legal Practice<\/a> by the Law Development Centre<\/a>, in Kampala, Uganda’s capital city. She also holds a Master of Laws<\/a> from the University of Pretoria<\/a> in South Africa<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mugambe\u00a0is the winner of the 2017 Women\u2019s Link International People\u2019s Choice Gavel Award for her work on issues of gender-based justice and will act as the 2017 Alliance for Historical Dialogue and Accountability Fellow at Columbia University in New York. In addition to contributing to AIPR\u2019s national and regional level work in Africa, Justice\u00a0Mugambe attended the 2013 Global Raphael Lemkin Seminar for the Prevention of Genocide in Poland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She briefly worked as a Magistrate in Uganda, a legal researcher at the International Bar Association in London, UK and as Legal Counsel at the United Nations International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in Arusha, Tanzania.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
