After the coronavirus hit the world and many businesses closed shop , journalists were not spared either and Vision Group Uganda\u2019s leading daily closed a number of its regional titles as senior journalists fell victim when they lost jobs .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among those were Etop newspaper reporters and editors based in the eastern district of Soroti. However, the laid off journalists did not wallow in self pity . They picked up the pieces and resolved to start their own publication – a weekly Ateso language newspaper called Aicerit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Aicerit, which literally means ‘star’ in Ateso, hit the streets of Soroti city and other towns on Wednesday some five months after Vision Group scrapped the publication of Etop, the hitherto , only Ateso newspaper in the Teso sub-region .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new newspaper hit the streets with a headline story about the e NRM parliamentary primaries and it was reported sold out by midday.
