The Electoral Commission of Uganda has clarified the rates and payment status of allowances for temporary election officials who served during the 2025\u20132026 General Elections, assuring beneficiaries that payments are being processed in line with approved guidelines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a press release issued on February 27, 2026 and signed by the Commission Secretary Richard Baabo Kamugisha, the Commission reminded all individuals who served in various temporary roles\u2014including presiding officers, polling assistants, police constables, BVVK operators, tally clerks, and parish and sub-county supervisors\u2014that their allowances will be paid according to the rates stated in their appointment letters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission noted that polling officials who worked during the Presidential and Parliamentary elections held on January 15, 2026 have already been paid through the e-cash system. However, payments for officials who participated in the District and City Local Government elections held on January 22, as well as Municipality and City Division elections conducted on January 27 and Sub-county and Town Council elections held on February 4, are still being processed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the Commission, most payments are being made directly to beneficiaries\u2019 mobile phone numbers through e-cash. However, delays have occurred in some cases due to discrepancies between the phone numbers submitted by officials and the corresponding names in the Commission\u2019s database.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officials affected by such mismatches have been advised to contact their respective Returning Officers to update and correct their details to enable successful processing of their payments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission also explained that in some instances, certain officials participated in one electoral activity but did not serve in subsequent election cycles. In such cases, Returning Officers have submitted revised lists of eligible beneficiaries, and the related allowances are currently under processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission assured all temporary election officials who were duly appointed and served during the elections that they will receive their allowances in accordance with the terms outlined in their appointment letters and the approved payment rates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It further expressed appreciation to the officials for their dedication and professionalism, noting that their efforts played a key role in ensuring that the elections were conducted successfully within the timelines set out in the electoral roadmap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
