A group of more than 120 young people in Kumi District has successfully completed a five-day digital skilling programme aimed at preparing them for today\u2019s technology-driven world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training was conducted under the Skilling Youth Groups in Information and Communications Technologies (ICT) and Multimedia program<\/em>, implemented by the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) and the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF), in partnership with Prime Time Communications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the week, participants took part in hands-on sessions that introduced them to essential digital tools, social media platforms, and modern communication techniques. They learnt how to use digital platforms responsibly for branding, job creation, and income generation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the multimedia sessions, the youths gained practical experience in video recording, editing, and publishing using applications such as KineMaster and CapCut. They also received training in audio recording and editing, skills that are increasingly important for podcasting, and digital storytelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training further strengthened their ability to communicate and work online, with lessons on Google Meet, Zoom, and professional Resident District Commissioner of Kumi District, Mr. John Bosco Mubito, encouraged the youths to fully embrace the new skills they had acquired.email use. One of the major highlights of the program was the introduction to Artificial Intelligence tools such as ChatGPT, Grok, and Google Gemini. For many participants, this was their first time learning about AI and how it can support content creation, business development, research, and creative innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the certificate awarding ceremony, the Resident District Commissioner of Kumi District, Mr. John Bosco Mubito, encouraged the youths to fully embrace the new skills they had acquired.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cUse the skills you have gained to improve your businesses, strengthen your communities, and contribute meaningfully to the development of our country. Digital knowledge is now a key driver of personal and national progress. I also urge you to use social media responsibly, continue practicing what you have learnt, and share these skills with other young people in your communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training also featured an inspiring session with renowned TikToker Dr. Solomon Kimera, whose visit excited many of the trainees. He demonstrated how creativity and responsible online engagement can lead to real opportunities and income. His practical advice motivated participants who admire his work and follow him on social media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the participants, Daniel Okalebo, said the training introduced him to new possibilities. \u201cI came here knowing almost nothing about editing videos or using AI. Today, I can record, edit, design graphics, and even use AI to improve my work,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This particular training is part of a broader initiative targeting more than 500 young people across Kapchorwa, Kumi, Manafwa, Butaleja, and Kamuli districts. Prime Time Communications has previously worked with Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) through the Uganda Communications Universal Service and Access Fund (UCUSAF) to deliver the similar training to nearly 1,400 youths in 13 districts in central and eastern Uganda.  An additional 200 youths will receive the training in the first quarter of 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With the completion of the latest Kumi cohort, the program continues to show how strategic partnerships can bridge the digital divide and prepare Uganda\u2019s youths for opportunities in a rapidly evolving digital economy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
