Uganda Civil Aviation Authority in collaboration with the Civil Air Navigation Services Organisation (CANSO) has successfully hostied the ICAO\u2013CANSO System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) and Flight & Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE) Workshop at Protea Hotel Entebbe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UCAA Deputy Director General, Ms. Olive Birungi Lumonya ,while addressing the delegates stated that Uganda has continued progress in digital aeronautical information exchange, MET data modernization, and the implementation of electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data (eTOD) as part of the country\u2019s commitment to transforming Air Navigation Services (ANS).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“System-Wide Information Management (SWIM) and the Flight and Flow Information for a Collaborative Environment (FF-ICE) stand out as transformative modules in the implementation of trajectory-based operations. These modules therefore should form a core of our planning to ensure not only safety but efficiency of air navigation operations. Uganda is proud to be among the States making concrete progress in these areas. At the Uganda Civil Aviation, ” she stated .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“SWIM and FF-ICE are not isolated initiatives\u2014they are regional and global endeavours. Their success depends on collaboration, harmonisation, and shared learning. That is why a forum like this workshop is so important. It brings together experts in AIM, ATM, MET, CNS, and the Regulators to exchange knowledge and accelerate the collective progress of African States,” Birungi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Deputy DG , said that Uganda has advanced its MET data capabilities through implementation of IWXXM, ensuring standardized digital exchange of meteorological information in line with global requirements. ” \uf0b7 We have also achieved significant progress in implementing electronic Terrain and Obstacle Data (eTOD), enhancing safety-related information for flight operations and supporting modern surveillance, procedure design, and aerodrome safeguarding.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Representing the ICAO Regional Director for the ESAF region, Ms. Kezia Ogutu underscored the critical value of collaboration in advancing aviation systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThere is a strong need for capacity building to prepare States for what is expected of them. This calls for working together, strengthening collaboration, and putting in place the proper structures,\u201d she said .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop brought together representatives from 15 States, including Angola, Burundi, Cape Verde, Cameroon, Congo, Ghana, Kenya, Namibia, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Togo, Tanzania, the United States of America, and Zambia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
