Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has paid tribute to the late Raila Amolo Odinga, the former Prime Minister of Kenya, saying he was a freedom fighter and a strong voice for Pan-Africanism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement President Museveni expressed deep sadness upon receiving news of Raila Odinga\u2019s death. Museveni said Odinga was not only a career politician but also a patriot in the tradition of his father, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, Kenya\u2019s first Vice President.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIdeologically speaking, they have been with the patriotic and Pan-Africanist orientation. I have shared ideas with both of them. Their sentiments have been for the unity of Kenya, East Africa and Africa, including always supporting the struggles for the realization of our dream for the East African Federation,\u201d Museveni said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is, therefore, unfortunate that he has left at this moment. It is important for the young people to fill the void left by such historical fighters for Africa\u2019s future,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

President Museveni extended his condolences to President William Ruto, the people of Kenya, and Raila Odinga\u2019s family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the same time the Buganda Kingdome has sent condolences to the family of the late Odinga . <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Katikiiro of Buganda Kingdom (Premier) ,Mr Charles Peter Mayiga, writing on his official X handle , said the kingdom of Buganda has enjoyed longstanding ties with the Odinga family , stating that the relationship has been \u201clong and close,\u201d dating back to the era of Ssekabaka Edward Muteesa II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mayiga expressed profound sadness over Odinga\u2019s passing, acknowledging the late leader\u2019s contributions to Kenya\u2019s political landscape and constitutional development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI express my condolences to members of his family, friends, Kenyans, and all East Africans. May the Lord receive his soul,\u201d he wrote. Mayiga further noted Odinga\u2019s achievements beyond politics, recognising his influence as a businessman ,and his broad impact on East Africa\u2019s socio-economic and political spheres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2013 ,Odinga was invitedto attend Kabaka\u2019s Coronation Anniversary in Mengo Palace commonly known asLubiri where he was a special guest and President Museveni was chief guest .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
