President Yoweri Museveni has surprised the nation by declining to renew the contract of outspoken outgoing IGG Beti Kamya and instead replaced her with lady Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Born 1977, Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala, takes over the leadership of an institution which is under public scrutiny to end the endemic corruption that has for long stifled good and effective public service delivery in Uganda . <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Before being appointed to the bench- Justice Naluzze Batala worked in the Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for nearly two decades .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Upon being appointed a High Court Judge she was posted to the High Court Land Division, served as resident Judge in the High Court\u2019s Criminal Division . She known for being strict follower of set rules and procedures – a tough executioner of set targets but who shuns public spotlight. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
“She is grounded given her legal practice and experience over the years . She is quite effective in her duties and we are confident she will handle herself well in that new role which calls for stamina and flexibility while dealing with corrupt public officials who have a lot of ill gotten wealth ,’ a colleague who has known her for a long time told this publication in confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Museveni has since retained the two Deputy IGGs, Dr. Patricia Achan Okiria and Anne Twinomugisha Muhairwe, in their respective offices .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Brief bio<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Justice Aisha Naluzze Batala is a former prosecutor who at the time of her appointment was working with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) where she has served for the last 18 years, having grown through the ranks to the position of Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n She has a wide range of experience in prosecution right from the subordinate courts to the Supreme Court. Before joining the ODPP, Justice Naluzze served as a Legal Assistant at F. Mukasa & Co. Advocates from 2003 to 2005.
