The on-going bloody wars in Gaza and Sudan have dominated debate during the second day of the AALCO closed Session chaired by the organisation\u2019s current President and Uganda\u2019s Attorney General Mr. Kiryowa Kiwanuka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Delegates from Sudan , Palestine , Kingdom of South Arabia, South Africa , China and the hosts Uganda are among many that put up a spirited arguments for the end to the bloody shed in Gaza and Sudan .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They called for the fair and balanced application of international law to resolve the conflicts through peaceful means .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Uganda \u2018s Justice and Constitutional Affairs Minister, Norbert Mao, emphasized the importance of compassion in international relations, saying, \u201cLet\u2019s be tough-minded as lawyers, but when making decisions, let us have soft hearts.\u201d He added that Uganda\u2019s experience in hosting nearly 2 million refugees has taught the nation the value of compassion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The five day Asian-African Legal Consultative Organisation (AALCO) being hosted in Uganda has brought together delegations from over 47 member states across Asia and Africa. The conference, scheduled from September 8-12, 2025, at Speke Resort Munyonyo, aims to advance dialogue on international law, the rule of law, and multilateral cooperation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
President Yoweri Museveni in a message delivered by the Speaker of Parliament of Uganda, Anita Among, highlighted AALCO\u2019s crucial role in promoting legal cooperation and advancing the interests of Africa and Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He noted that AALCO has been instrumental in ensuring Africa and Asia are leaders in global legal discourse, covering areas such as the Law of the Sea, human rights, trade and investments, and environmental protection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
AALCO Secretary-General Dr. Kamalinne Pinitpuvadol said the organisation remains relevant in addressing pressing issues such as climate change, protection of migrant workers, and emerging technologies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The session will deliberate on various topics, including the Law of the Sea, human rights, trade and investment law, environmental protection, and digital trade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two new topics have been added to the agenda: \u201cProvision of Aggression and Use of Force in International Law\u201d and \u201cViolation of International Law by the Rapid Support Force in Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
