The Electoral Commission (EC) has commenced the nationwide nomination period for candidates that will contest for the 2026 Local Government Councils Elections. The exercise will run from September 3 to September 24, 2025, across designated nomination centers throughout the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the EC, the process will take place on weekdays between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. and will cover all elective positions at district, city, municipality, division, sub-county, and town council levels, including representatives for Special Interest Groups (SIGs).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The first round of nominations, for District and City Chairpersons, Lord Mayor, and Councillors, will be conducted from September 3 to 5, 2025. This will be followed by Municipality and City Division nominations from September 8 to 10, 2025. The final phase, running from September 11 to 24, 2025, will cover Municipal Division, Sub County, and Town Council positions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Electoral Commission Chairperson, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, urged all aspiring candidates to prepare adequately and meet the legal requirements for nomination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cAll persons aspiring to contest in the Local Government Councils Elections are urged to familiarize themselves with the requirements for nomination for each elective position, as outlined in the Guidelines issued by the Electoral Commission,\u201d Justice Byabakama said. \u201cWe remain committed to conducting regular, free, and fair elections and call upon all stakeholders to play their part responsibly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Commission has also advised aspirants to pick nomination forms and guidelines from District EC offices across the country or download them from the official website at www.ec.or.ug.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
