President museveni , has approved the upgrade of 9 town councils according to the ministry of Local government .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The town councils were approved following requests from local leaders and assessments by the ministry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThese town councils were created to bring services closer to the people and promote local development We are not creating new districts, but upgrading existing sub-counties into town councils with functioning administrative structures,\u201d the ministry stated .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each district with a new town council will receive 1 billion Ugandan shillings (around $265,000 USD) to help with setting up headquarters and providing basic services and that particular administrative unit .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Ministry of Local Government says operationalization of the new town councils will begin in the next financial year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the ministry, more funds may be requested from the Ministry of Finance depending on the needs of each administrative unit..<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The newly approved town councils include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
1. Kyanamukkaka \u2013 Masaka District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
2. Mukuju \u2013 Tororo District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
3. Bukedea Central \u2013 Bukedea District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
4. Kabwangasi \u2013 Butebo District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
5. Kamdini \u2013 Oyam District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
6. Kasensero \u2013 Rakai District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
7. Kidetok \u2013 Serere District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
8. Obongi Central \u2013 Obongi District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
9. Namasale \u2013 Amolatar District<\/p>\n\n\n\n
