The Electoral Commission has adjusted the dates for the nomination of candidates for Presidential Elections 2025\/2026, which was earlier scheduled to be conducted on 2nd and 3rd October 2025. The nominations will now take place on 23rd and 24th September 2025″ – Justice Byabakama\u00a0, the Independent Electoral Commission Chairman, has said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Byabakama explained that the adjustment is part of broader preparations aimed at ensuring a smooth electoral process and timely delivery of key electoral activities ahead of the polling period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nomination of candidates for local governments, including Special Interest Groups (SIGs) will take place on 3rd to 12th September 2025;
,and nomination of candidates for parliamentary elections,16th \u2013 17th September 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Commission urged all aspirants and political parties to align their preparations with the updated roadmap and ensure compliance with the relevant legal and procedural requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Justice Byabakama emphasized the EC\u2019s commitment to conducting free, fair, and credible elections, and called on all stakeholders to play their part in safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Electoral Commission is expected to release additional details on nomination venues, requirements, and campaign guidelines in the coming weeks as Uganda moves closer to the high-stakes 2026 General Elections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
