{"id":14768,"date":"2025-07-03T13:06:27","date_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ugandaupdatenews.com\/?p=14768"},"modified":"2025-07-03T13:06:42","modified_gmt":"2025-07-03T13:06:42","slug":"uganda-rolls-out-national-biofuels-blending-programme-with-e5-launch","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/prowebinhost.com\/anzu\/uganda-rolls-out-national-biofuels-blending-programme-with-e5-launch\/","title":{"rendered":"Uganda Rolls Out National Biofuels Blending Programme With E5 Launch"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Zulfah Namatovu<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister of Energy and Mineral Development, &nbsp;Ruth Nankabirwa, announced the official rollout of Uganda\u2019s National Biofuels Blending Programme, starting with a 5% ethanol blend in petrol (E5).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The&nbsp; announcement was made during a press briefing aimed at highlighting the country\u2019s energy transition efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Nankabirwa noted that the initiative is a major step toward reducing Uganda\u2019s reliance on imported fuel, promoting cleaner energy, and creating new market opportunities for local farmers and processors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;The programme aligns with Uganda\u2019s Vision 2040 and the Biofuels Act 2020, reinforcing the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>country\u2019s commitment to a green, self-sustaining economy powered by local resources and innovation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ethanol used in the blending will be sourced locally, supporting the Buy Uganda Build Uganda (BUBU) policy. The minister revealed that the Ministry has licensed firms such as Kakira Sugar, Hoima Sugar, and Bukona Agro, among others, with a combined annual capacity of 78.5 million litres of ethanol.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support the blending process, four strategic centres will be established in Busia, Malaba, Mutukula, and Entebbe, collectively handling over 110 million litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS).
