Justice Minister Norbert Mao, has confirmed that negotiations were taking place to facilitate Judge Mugambe’s transfer from a British prison to Uganda but declined to details about the matter .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This after Soroti District Woman MP, Anna Adeke, told the Legal Committee Of Parliament that she was aware that there are on going efforts to bring Justice Mugambe back home under the Transfer of Convicted Offenders Act, 2012 that provides the legal framework for prisoner swap between Uganda and other countries<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ms Adeke told Parliament that Lady Justice Lydia Mugambe, who was found guilty of slavery by the Oxford Crown Court in March, is due for prisoner exchange if the negotiations are successful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI saw a statutory instrument on prisoner exchange that was focusing on Lady Justice Mugambe and thank you for the efforts,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“But now I want to ask what happens to these other Ugandans who are little known or unknown, who are languishing in foreign countries like China, UAE, Turkey? What will it take for you to cause such efforts to assist them because some of them are in touch with us as their representatives?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Mao said negotiations are on going to resolve some cases involving Ugandans facing the criminal justice systems in foreign countries .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
