Uganda’s Finance Minister, Matia Kasaija, has signed a agreement with the Japanese government to reconstruct the Karuma Bridge at Ug.Shs. 121Bn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Japanese Ambassador to Uganda,\u00a0 Sasayama Takuya, and JICA’s Chief Representative, Mr. Inoue Yoichi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The New bridge at Karuma will feature modern, elevated structures designed to enhance safety, traffic flow, and regional connectivity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new bridge will eliminate the sharp curves that have contributed to frequent accidents on the current bridge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kasaija expressed gratitude to the Japanese government for their long-standing technical and financial support, for big projects in Uganda including the Kampala clock tower flyover and road upgrading project, as well as the new bridge across the River Nile in Jinja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are particularly grateful for the strong partnership between our two governments in advancing Uganda’s infrastructure development for economic growth and regional integration,” Kasaija said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Japan government’s financial support includes another USD 6.8 million gran to improve medical equipment at regional referral hospitals and the USD 125 million credit for the Karuma power evacuation lines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
