Government \u00a0has received an additional financial support of \u00a0US dollars IM (UGX.4bn)from \u00a0Denmark through World Health Organisation (WHO) to support the national COVID-19 response. According to the Minister of Health Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng , the grant will be used to procure test kits and additional protective gear for frontline health workers in the fight against the novel global pandemic .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Uganda has a great need for testing kits and this grant comes as a boost to our testing capacity. This will help in combing out COVID-19 infections from the communities. Thank you for the support and steadfast partnership”, Dr Aceng said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe funds will cater for additional PPEs for the frontline workers. This contribution is intended to increase the number of people being tested and decrease congestion at the border points so as to ease tension in trade within the East African Community,\u201d Mr. Nicolaj A. Hejberg Petersen the Danish Ambassador to Uganda, stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr. Yonas Tegegn Woldemariam , the WHO county representative in Uganda , said that ;\u201cCOVID-19 remains as a priority for WHO at all levels. The provision of support to procure laboratory supplies will go a long way in facilitating tests for truck drivers, communities and those in quarantine as well. I would like to affirm our commitment to a continued partnership with the Embassy of Denmark and the Government of Uganda and all partners in the control COVID 19 outbreak and other public health problems.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
While addressing the nation early this week President Museveni thanked Uganda\u2019s frontline health works whom he described as \u201cvery committed and skilled\u201d professionals after 631 out of 774 Ugandans who were infected with the coronavirus have been successful treated and discharged from hospital.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
