Former Inspector General of Police (IGP), Boniface Eron Okoth Ogola died at the age of 85.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogola who served at the helm of the force from 1981 to 1985 -during the Obote II regime died at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala, according to a statement by the current IGP, Mr Abbas Byakagaba.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Byakagaba extended his heartfelt condolences to Ogola\u2019s bereaved family and said that the police force will honour his legacy with the respect and dignity he deserves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cHis contributions to law enforcement and national security will forever be remembered within the force. He served with dedication and left an indelible mark on Uganda\u2019s policing history,\u201d Byakagaba stated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ogola was recognised by President Museveni for his outstanding service and awarded a medal .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson, SSP Patrick Onyango said funeral arrangements for the late IGP will be communicated in due course. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Tanga Odoi, Chairperson of the NRM Electoral Commission and a native of Tororo,paid tribute the late Ogola noting the deceased ‘s humility and generosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“If you didn\u2019t know him, you wouldn\u2019t tell that he was a high-ranking officer. In public gatherings, he would give up his seat for others and stand. He also played a key role in helping many Ugandans join the police force, regardless of their ethnic background,” Dr. Odoi stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beyond his law enforcement career, Ogola was deeply connected to his cultural roots. He once vied for the position of clan head of Moriwa Sule, although he was unsuccessful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“He loved his clan and always emphasized the importance of remembering our origins,” Dr. Odoi added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jacob Oboth Oboth, Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs, stated thus ,”Tororo has produced two Inspectors General of Police, both named Okoth. He served diligently. When he fell ill, the government was informed, and he received state medical attention. His contribution to Uganda\u2019s security remains invaluable.” <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We thank God for the gift of his life and the service he rendered to the nation. He remains a pillar in the history of the Japadhola,” Oboth added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
