The Ministry of Education and Sports has released the 2024 Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) results under the new comptency based curriculum at an event presided over by the Minister janet Museveni.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minister Janet Museveni was particularly happy with the the dedication and improved processes within the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) that have ensured the timely release of the results .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cReleasing these results earlier than last year is a testament to the commitment and hard work of UNEB,\u201d she stated , while emphasizing the ministry\u2019s determination to ensure timeliness and reliability in the education sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Minister stressed the importance of protecting students\u2019 personal data; \u201cThe Personal Data Protection Office has drawn UNEB\u2019s attention to the provisions of the Data Protection and Privacy Act, which prohibit the public disclosure of personal data of children.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPublicly displaying names, photographs, and individual grades exposes learners to harassment, stigma, and emotional distress.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) Executive Director Dan Odong, said that the results show a significant improvement in student performance, with 98.5% of candidates qualifying for the UCE certificate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odong, attributed the high percentage of students who qualified for the certificate is a testament to the effectiveness of the new curriculum. \u201cWe are pleased to see that the competency-based curriculum has had a positive impact on student performance,\u201d Odong said. \u201cThe results show that our students are acquiring the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in the 21st century.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the new curriculum, students are assessed on their ability to apply knowledge and skills in real-life situations. The assessment is based on a combination of continuous assessment and end-of-cycle examination scores, with a ratio of 20% continuous assessment and 80% end-of-cycle examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The results show that 350,146 candidates qualified for the UCE certificate, out of a total of 359,417 candidates who sat for the examination. This represents a significant improvement over previous years, when the pass rate was typically lower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Odong explained improvement in student performance was due to the focus on competency-based learning, which emphasizes the acquisition of skills and knowledge that are relevant to the workforce. \u201cThe competency-based curriculum is designed to prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century,\u201d Odong said. \u201cWe are confident that our students will be well-equipped to succeed in the workforce and make a positive contribution to society.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Female candidates performed slightly better than their male counterparts, with 50.7% of female candidates qualifying for the certificate compared to 49.3% of male candidates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
