Uganda has been elected the Chair of\u00a0 Africa Union (AU)\u00a0 -STC on Public Service , local Government , Urban Development and Decentralisation for a term of two years expiring in 2026.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda\u2019s Minister Of Lands housing and urban Development , ms. Judith Nabakooba assumed the new chairmanship at during the 5th<\/sup> ordinary session of AU-STC held in the Tunisian capital Tunis .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her acceptance speech , Nabakooba assured the delegates of Uganda\u2019s readiness and commitment  to enhance public service, advance local governance and promote sustainable urbanisation and human settlements  on the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe role of good urban governance, efficient public service and effective local governance in achieving Africa\u2019s Agenda 2063 cannot be over emphasised. During this term of office, we commit to work with all of you to advance this agenda with emphasis on areas of public service, local governance, urban development and decentralization,\u201d Nabakooba stated .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She noted the challenges still facing the continent that include public service efficiency, digital governance, smart citydevelopment and devolution of power under decentralisation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe need to face these challenges squarely with continental solutions. We will put focus on implementing appropriate mechanisms for sharing of experiences and best practices in the above spheres among member states.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will further put emphasis on areas of policy development and alignment, capacity building as well creation of a conducive environment by aligning our workplans with those of other AU STCs to gain from the synergies that do exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under her stewardship , Nabakooba pledged to accelerate the ratification and implementation of the African Charters under AU STC No.8 to \u00a0ensure that these translates into concrete action and progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt is important that our commitments to the promotion of incorporating the triple nexus between Public Administration, Local Governance, Urbanization and Decentralization serve Africa well in delivering on the 7 aspirations of Agenda 2063, the 17 goals of Sustainable Development and the New urban Agenda,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
