The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) has recorded \u00a03,259 cases\u00a0of trafficking in persons from July 2023 to early December 2024,and \u00a0446 suspects\u00a0arrested in connection with these crimes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A total of\u00a04,965 trafficked persons <\/strong>have been recorded and \u00a079.7%\u00a0of these are children. This means that an estimated \u00a02,500\u00a0<\/strong>minors were trafficked, for various reasons including but not limited to ,\u00a0s<\/strong>ex trafficking\u00a0,\u00a0658 cases\u00a0of labor trafficked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n During a press conference at Police Headquarters in Naguru,\u00a0<\/strong>Derrick Kigenyi Basalirwa, Deputy Coordinator of the National Coordination and Prevention of Human Trafficking, provided a breakdown of the cases across Uganda\u2019s regions.\u00a0Mbale\u00a0 district has the highest cases at 373\u00a0 followed by Kampala \u00a0with\u00a0313\u00a0cases,\u00a0Masaka\u00a0with\u00a0250,\u00a0Jinja\u00a0253, and\u00a0Nakawa\u00a0\u00a0233\u00a0cases. Other are with\u00a0173\u00a0cases each and Mukono\u00a0-161\u00a0cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Basalirwa noted the rising cases of trafficking in persons in Uganda and warned parents, students, and the general public to remain vigilant during the holiday season.
