Prof Fredrick Sempebwa, one of Uganda’s most respected legal minds and former President of the Uganda Law Society (ULS), has described Isaac Semakadde\u2019s disruptive approach as the new normal for Uganda and the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking during a CBS radio interview on Friday morning, Sempebwa stated that society must accept that individuals like Semakadde, who challenge the status quo, are becoming common globally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Responding to a question from host Alex Nsubuga Katabalwa about how Semakadde managed a landslide victory to become ULS President despite his controversial style, Sempebwa pointed out a global shift in norms. He cited U.S. President-elect Donald Trump, who, despite facing legal challenges, won massive public support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThings that were once abominable and unacceptable have now become normal,\u201d Sempebwa observed, adding that Uganda should prepare for more disruptors like Semakadde in traditionally civil spaces. He noted that such individuals often shake up systems, creating chaos before society rebuilds stronger structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sempebwa revealed that he once mentored Semakadde, advising him to soften his militant approach. However, he later distanced himself, expressing concerns over Semakadde\u2019s radical methods, which he suggested might stem from a health issue requiring medical attention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The veteran lawyer criticized Semakadde\u2019s use of vulgar language and unfounded accusations against leaders, likening it to someone making absurd claims without evidence. He acknowledged that while legal means exist to remove Semakadde from the ULS presidency, his popularity among members would make any such effort futile.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sempebwa also condemned unconstitutional attempts to oust Semakadde, emphasizing the need for lawful reforms across Uganda, though he disapproved of Semakadde’s confrontational tactics. He concluded that Uganda must adapt to this evolving landscape where disruptors like Semakadde are shaping the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
