Uganda’s Electoral Commission of Uganda (EC) has been elected to the Executive Board of the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB). This was during the 6th General Assembly of A-WEB that is on going in Bogot\u00e1, Colombia..<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Members from the Africa region nominated the EC Uganda to the Board alongside the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Kenya to fill two vacant positions representing the African continent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As a result, members of the General Assembly confirmed the EC Uganda to for election bodies and will serve for two years .<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two join three other electoral management bodies from Libya, Sierra Leone, and Mauritius as Africa\u2019s representatives on the Board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Executive Board leads and provides oversight for the association\u2019s activities in advancing democratic, free, fair, transparent, and credible elections worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Commissioner Peter James Emorut, who represented the EC Uganda at the General Assembly, appreciated the members for the confidence they had placed in the Commission and Uganda. He pledged that the EC would make a positive contribution to advancing the mission and vision of the association during its tenure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Headquartered in South Korea, A-WEB is the world\u2019s largest international organization in the field of election management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It currently comprises 121 Election Management Bodies (EMBs) from 111 countries. Since its establishment in 2013, A-WEB has pursued its mission and vision of fostering the effective and efficient conduct of free, fair, transparent, and participative elections worldwide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
