Uganda and Tanzania have commissioned the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP) Coating plant, nestled at Sojo , Nzege \u2013 Tabora Region in Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ruth Nankabirwa, Uganda\u2019s Minister of Energy joined her counterpart in Tanzania ,the Dr Doto Biteko, to commission the facility, where all the pipelines delivered from the Port of Dar es Salaam will undergo thermal insulation and coating.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Thereafter, they will be transported to the different Main Camps and Pipe Yards (MCYP) along the pipeline corridor ready for use in the construction of the EACOP. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nankabirwa commended EACOP Company for remaining committed to the development of the EACOP Project since the announcement of the Final Investment Decision (FID) for the upstream projects as well as the EACOP in February 2022. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cToday\u2019s commissioning of this plant is a true testament that the project is on course and at a point of no return,\u201d Nankabirwa said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u00a0\u201cAll this is aimed at safeguarding the environment and surroundings as well as prolonging the lifespan of the pipeline,\u201d Nankabirwa added.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWorks on the upstream projects in Uganda namely Tilenga and Kingfisher Development Areas are also progressing very well with four (4) rigs in the country drilling development wells and construction of the industrial area to host the Central Processing Facilities and their auxiliary parts\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The EACOP is a transboundary 1,443km pipeline which starts in Hoima District in Uganda and terminates at Tanga port in Tanzania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Uganda, it traverses 296km through ten districts ( Kikuube, Hoima, Kakumiro, Kyankwazi, Mubende, Gomba, Sembabule, Lwengo, Rakai and Kyotera); involving 25 sub-counties and 171 villages; while in Tanzania, it traverses eight regions (Kagera, Geita, Shinyaga, Tabora, Singida, Dodoma, Manyara and Tanga) involving twenty (20) districts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
