The 19th Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit is currently underway in Uganda, marking a historic moment for the East African nation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Adonia Ayebare, the Permanent Representative of Uganda to the United Nations, has taken over as Chairperson for the summit, reinforcing Uganda\u2019s commitment to global cooperation and diplomacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hundreds of delegates have arrived at the Speke Resort Munyonyo to attend the 19th Non-alignment movement(NAM) summit which\u00a0 January 2024.\u00a0 The theme for the Summit is “Deepening Cooperation For Shared Global Affluence.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda\u2019s Minister of Foreign Affairs Gen Jeje Odongo<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaders and representatives from 120 member countries have gathered to address pressing global issues, including peace and security, economic development, and climate change. The NAM, representing nations that are not aligned with any major power bloc, plays a pivotal role in fostering dialogue and collaboration on the international stage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ambassador Ayebare highlighted the importance of unity and collective action in addressing the complex challenges facing the world. He emphasized the NAM\u2019s commitment to upholding principles of equality, justice, and non-interference in the affairs of sovereign nations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summit\u2019s agenda includes comprehensive discussions on regional and global issues, with a focus on finding common solutions to shared challenges. Delegates are expected to engage in substantive deliberations to strengthen the NAM\u2019s role in promoting peace, security, and sustainable development.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Uganda\u2019s hosting of the 19th NAM Summit is a testament to the country\u2019s growing influence and diplomatic standing. According to Hon. John Mulimba, the State Minister for Foreign Affairs, the  summit will provide a unique opportunity for Uganda to be at the center of global affairs as well as support and promote the interests of developing countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The vision for Uganda will be a stronger and united NAM that contributes to a better and stronger world for all,” Mulimba said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mulimba said the choice of the two themes was based on the fact that some issues had emerged worldwide, which require the engagement of group members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
